How to get a $10,000 grant each month

Running search ads has become more accessible for non-profits thanks to the Google Ad Grants programme.

If you represent a non-profit organisation, charity, or community initiative, this programme allows you to advertise on Google Ads for free. It’s a great way to raise awareness about your mission, attract more donors and volunteers, and share your projects with a wider audience.

What is Google Ad Grants?

Google Ad Grants provides in-kind advertising support of up to $10,000 per month for running text ads on Google Search. Your ads appear above or below the organic search results, triggered by relevant keywords connected to your organisation’s work.

What tools are included in the “Google for Nonprofits” programme?

  • Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) — including Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, and more
  • Ad Grants — free Google Ads advertising credits
  • YouTube for Nonprofits — with access to premium features
  • Google Maps and Google Earth — to visualise data and tell stories about your impact

Who is eligible to apply?

The programme is open to:

  • Registered charities
  • Non-profit associations
  • Religious organisations
  • International non-profit institutions

The following are not eligible:

  • Governmental bodies
  • Healthcare organisations (except charitable healthcare departments)
  • Educational institutions (except charitable divisions of educational organisations)

How to apply for a Google Ad Grant

  1. Register with TechSoup, Google’s official partner for verifying non-profit status
  2. Once verified, create a Google for Nonprofits account
  3. Apply for the Google Ad Grants programme
  4. Set up your Google Ads account according to the grant requirements

Key limitations of Google Ads Grants:

  • Maximum budget: $329 per day or $10,000 per month
  • Max CPC: $2.00 (unless you use Smart Bidding)
  • Ad type: Text ads only, shown on Google Search
  • Display and video ads are not allowed

Why Google Ads Grants work for non-profits

Google Ads can be a powerful tool, even with limited budgets. With Ad Grants, you’re not paying for impressions — which means:

  • You can raise awareness about your mission
  • Receive more donations
  • Recruit volunteers
  • Promote events, fundraising drives, or awareness campaigns
